In this hands-on, 10 session filmmaking workshop, kids ages 9 - 14 will work in a small group to learn the basics of writing, directing, acting in and editing a short film that tells the entire story of a Newbery-award winning book -- in about a minute and a half!  Kids will work together under the guidance of an experienced video instructor.

Participants create a team name for their own movie studio, pitch their ideas, write a script, produce a storyboard, act, direct and operate a camera.

Filming and post-production take place in the studios of The Mix at SFPL.  Participants will assist with adding special effects and a custom soundtrack.

The finished short film will be entered in the 90-Second Newbery Film Festival, and participants will attend a red carpet film premiere with invited guests.

Contact Jim Jeske at james.jeske@sfpl.org or stop by the Main Library Children's Center or The Mix (Teen Center) with questions or for assistance registering.

After-school snacks provided. Registration is limited, participants will choose a book as the basis for their film after they sign up.

Instruction provided in partnership with The Mix at SFPL, a Teen Digital Media Lab, and The Digital & Visual Arts Program of the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department.
