Volunteer at Your Local Library

San Francisco Public Library welcomes youth volunteers who are 13-17 years old.

There are four types of volunteer opportunities offered throughout the SFPL system. Click on a type of application form and turn it in at the location of your choice.

Every summer, San Francisco’s youth contribute to their community through the Library, assisting librarians with the Summer Stride learning program and other related tasks. Grades 8-12 (next year). More information: Summer Squad Teen Volunteers (PDF)

Assist with ongoing library activities and tasks
Available Locations: The Mix at SFPL, Anza, Bayview, Chinatown, Excelsior, Glen Park, Golden Gate Valley, Ingleside, Marina, Mission, Noe Valley, North Beach, Ocean View, Ortega, Park, Parkside, Portola, Potrero, Presidio, Richmond, Sunset, Visitacion Valley, West Portal, Western Addition
Help library patrons with their basic computer skills
Available Locations: Chinatown, Excelsior, Ortega, Richmond, Sunset, West Portal
Plan your own program at the library. Send us a proposal. Once it is approved, work with a librarian on publicity, planning, practice, and, finally, run it at the library. A stipend may be given to the teen performer upon
completion of the program.
Available Locations: Excelsior, West Portal
FOG Readers is a new program provided by San Francisco Public Library to help struggling readers. Help an elementary school student with their reading skills through on-going tutoring sessions once a week at your local library. Tutors will be required to attend four 1.5 hour training sessions and commit to one semester of tutoring.
