San Francisco Public Library welcomes youth volunteers who are 13-17 years old.

There are four types of volunteer opportunities offered throughout the SFPL system. Click on a type of application form and turn it in at the location of your choice.

Assist with Summer Stride!

Every summer, San Francisco’s youth contribute to their community through the Library, assisting librarians with the Summer Stride learning program and other related tasks. Grades 8-12

Available Locations: The Mix at SFPL, Anza, Bayview, Chinatown, Excelsior, Glen Park, Golden Gate Valley, Ingleside, Marina, Merced, Mission, Noe Valley, North Beach, Ocean View, Ortega, Park, Parkside, Portola, Potrero, Presidio, Richmond, Sunset, Visitacion Valley, West Portal, Western Addition

High school volunteers needed to tutor K-8 learners at Excelsior Branch Library this summer. Learners are matched with tutors in one-on-one tutoring or in groups of 2-3. All tutors are trained in the program’s operation, literacy tutoring skills, and working with youth.

Read Write Discover is a program that matches high school students with youth grades first through eighth grades in an effort to help improve their literacy skills. This program targets students who are struggling in reading and writing or whose families face language barriers in their communities.

Help library patrons with their basic computer skills
Available Locations: Chinatown, Excelsior, Ortega, Richmond, Sunset, West Portal
FOG Readers is a new program provided by San Francisco Public Library to help struggling readers. Help an elementary school student with their reading skills through on-going tutoring sessions once a week at your local library. Tutors will be required to attend four 1.5 hour training sessions and commit to one semester of tutoring. Must be 15 years of age or older to volunteer.
